Edgewood New Mexico & Santa Fe County Area History

In The Majestic Sandia & Manzano Mountains!
A Beautiful Blend Of Amenities And Atmosphere.

In 1844, the Republic of Mexico established Santa Fe County - it was re-designated by the New Mexico Legislature in 1852. The first Spanish explorers here found Pueblo Indian communities dating back to prehistoric times. Today, the ruins of these pueblos attest to their achievements and the events that
shaped our early colonial history.

Other important events include the development of the Camino Real, the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, the establishment of the Santa Fe Trail, a major Civil War battle and the coming of railroads and mining booms. Lands to the north of Santa Fe are Pueblo Indian reservations, while lands to the east and
west are mostly public lands managed by the
BLM and the US Forest Service.

The southern part of Santa Fe County has a pattern of mixed ownership, with private lands predominating. Area development is proceeding rapidly as the population of Santa Fe County continues
to grow.
